XPATIC/Markets
The markets we build for
Eleven markets, plus five Spanish regions that behave differently enough to need campaigns of their own. Each carries a different nationality mix, a different seasonal curve and a different set of dominant service needs.
We started where we live and work, and built outward from there. The method is not specific to any one of these, which is why the list keeps growing.
What decides whether a market works is not the country. It is whether there is a foreign national population large enough to reach, reachable in English, and whether your service is one those people would rather buy from someone who understands their situation.
Europe
Where the established British and Northern European populations are. Older, settled, property-heavy, and the markets we know best.
Spain
Europe's largest British expat population across five regions that behave nothing like each other. Our home market.
Region of SpainCosta del Sol
Málaga to Estepona. The densest British concentration and the most developed English-speaking business community.
Region of SpainCosta Blanca
Benidorm, Torrevieja, Jávea and the urbanisations. More permanently settled than the Costa del Sol.
Region of SpainBalearic Islands
Higher incomes, a German population rivalling the British one, and the steepest seasonal curve in Spain.
Region of SpainCanary Islands
The one Spanish market with no real off-season, and a demand curve that stays flat all year.
Region of SpainMadrid and Barcelona
Working-age, international and transient. Postings and courses rather than retirement.
MarketPortugal
The Algarve and Lisbon. Newer than Spain, growing fast, and far less contested.
MarketFrance
The Côte d'Azur and the rural south west. Two populations with almost nothing in common.
MarketCyprus
Paphos and Limassol. Small, concentrated, and running on a legal system British residents recognise.
Middle East and Asia
Postings-led markets where the population turns over continuously and English rarely filters anybody on its own.
Dubai and the UAE
Working-age, high income, and churning constantly as contracts begin and end.
MarketThailand
The largest Western population in Southeast Asia, across Bangkok, Phuket and Chiang Mai.
MarketSingapore
Corporate, high-earning and transient. Closer to Dubai than to anywhere else in the region.
The Americas
Where the largest American expat populations went, and where almost nobody advertises to them properly.
United States
More foreign-born residents than any country on earth, plus the snowbird populations of Florida and Arizona.
MarketMexico
The largest American expat population in the world, clustered in well-defined communities.
MarketCosta Rica
A small country with an outsized American and Canadian retiree population.
Everywhere else
The markets with pages are the ones we know best, not the only ones this works in.
Not sure which applies to you?
A few questions about your business and your market, then a call to work out whether there is anything here worth building.
